The opening of Doha Souq Mall in the second quarter of 2018 is expected to generate employment and increase the country’s job offerings, an official has said.

At the same time, the new mall will focus on promoting local brands, said Bandary Real Estate malls manager Amjed Saleh, who announced on Sunday that Doha Souq is officially accepting tenants.
Speaking to Gulf Times on the sidelines of the event, Saleh said: “Doha Souq showcases many tenants, offices and a supermarket, making it a business destination, hence a series of hiring from both the local and international markets.
“All these commercial activities are an opportunity for the country to increase job offerings. Because every aspect of service requires an increase in manpower, we are expecting to offer at least 500 new jobs once the mall is fully operational.”
Located along Al Nasr Street, Doha Souq spans a 15,000sqm land area and total buildup area of 63,000sqm. Its gross leasable area for tenants will be 26,000sqm, Saleh said.
The mall features 20 food and beverage outlets, three atrium lobby cafés, 22 retail spaces, a supermarket, a play area, 26 office/clinic spaces, and two basement car parks with a capacity of 550 cars. Parking will be free to those who use the mall’s facilities.
Saleh also noted that as a community mall, Doha Souq will focus on local brands.
“Previously when you had an international brand, it had more value and more weight. But now we have noticed among retailers and restaurant owners that there a lot of initiatives that match international brand standards, so people are more educated and knowledgeable, and there are a lot of local concepts and production that meet international standards,” he pointed out.
Saleh also expressed optimism amid the political and economic climate in the region. “Doha Souq is a good contribution to the economy. We plan to concentrate on good quality and service, taking into consideration market prices.
“Doha Souq will concentrate on services because it is located in a busy area,” he said, adding that footfall is projected to be between 5,000 and 9,000 per day.
He added, “We are confident that Doha Souq will be a good and positive addition to Doha by having a new property that showcases public and private sector collaboration in developing the country.”
