The much-awaited Doha Souq Mall is all set to open in the second quarter of 2018, a senior official of Bandary Real Estate said on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference to announce the launch of retail space leasing at the mall, Bandary Real Estate Malls Manager Amjed Saleh said that Doha Souq Mall has officially started accepting tenants.
Bandary Real Estate, which will manage the mall, will start handing over the leased spaces to tenants from the first quarter of the next year.
Located in Al Nasr Street, the mall will have a gross leasable area of 26,000 square metres (sqm) for tenants. While the mall will have a land area of 15,000 sqm, the total buildup area will reach upto 63,000 sqm.
Saleh revealed that some of the famous names like Family Food Centre (FFC) and Jollibee will be opening their branches in the mall. Talks are also on with a famous Lebanese bakery chain to open its branch at the mall.
“In all, the mall will have 20 food and beverage outlets, three atrium lobby cafes, 22 retail spaces, a supermarket, a play area, and 26 office and clinic spaces,” Saleh said.
The two basement car parkings at the mall will have the capacity to accommodate around 550 cars, Saleh said.
“As the mall is located in a populous area like Al Nasr Street, we expect many visitors to walk in to the mall. This mall is especially designed to cater to all income groups. Unlike other malls, Doha Souq will have a lot of services to offer to people living in surrounding areas. It will be an ideal place for dining, holding business meetings and shopping,” he said.
Saleh expressed hope that the entire retail space of the mall will be fully occupied by the end of the first quarter next year.
“Many famous brands have already booked space at the mall. Talks are on with other companies as well. The response is overwhelming,” he said.
As the mall is located in the heart of the city, Saleh said, he expected footfalls in the range of 10,000 to 15,000 from day one.
More than 500 jobs will be created once the mall is fully occupied and operational, he added.
In tandem with the government initiative, he said, preference would be given to ‘Made in Qatar’ products at the mall.
“The unjust siege of Qatar has led to a vibrant manufacturing sector in the country. Goods manufactured in Qatar are of high quality and competitive in the market,” he said.

The opening of Doha Souq Mall in the second quarter of 2018 is expected to generate employment and increase the country’s job offerings, an official has said.

At the same time, the new mall will focus on promoting local brands, said Bandary Real Estate malls manager Amjed Saleh, who announced on Sunday that Doha Souq is officially accepting tenants.
Speaking to Gulf Times on the sidelines of the event, Saleh said: “Doha Souq showcases many tenants, offices and a supermarket, making it a business destination, hence a series of hiring from both the local and international markets.
“All these commercial activities are an opportunity for the country to increase job offerings. Because every aspect of service requires an increase in manpower, we are expecting to offer at least 500 new jobs once the mall is fully operational.”
Located along Al Nasr Street, Doha Souq spans a 15,000sqm land area and total buildup area of 63,000sqm. Its gross leasable area for tenants will be 26,000sqm, Saleh said.
The mall features 20 food and beverage outlets, three atrium lobby cafés, 22 retail spaces, a supermarket, a play area, 26 office/clinic spaces, and two basement car parks with a capacity of 550 cars. Parking will be free to those who use the mall’s facilities.
Saleh also noted that as a community mall, Doha Souq will focus on local brands.
“Previously when you had an international brand, it had more value and more weight. But now we have noticed among retailers and restaurant owners that there a lot of initiatives that match international brand standards, so people are more educated and knowledgeable, and there are a lot of local concepts and production that meet international standards,” he pointed out.
Saleh also expressed optimism amid the political and economic climate in the region. “Doha Souq is a good contribution to the economy. We plan to concentrate on good quality and service, taking into consideration market prices.
“Doha Souq will concentrate on services because it is located in a busy area,” he said, adding that footfall is projected to be between 5,000 and 9,000 per day.
He added, “We are confident that Doha Souq will be a good and positive addition to Doha by having a new property that showcases public and private sector collaboration in developing the country.”
